Early Americana Painting of a Little Girl With A Basket of Flowers
The original Early Americana painting was done of a little girl about 4 or 5 years of age from the 1800s, based on her empire wasted dress and pantaloons. Notice the detail in her skirt and her undergarments with pulled thread eyelets and laced edging. She has a very comforting look and pose standing there with her basket of flowers looking longingly at you with her cute braided hair and chestnut brown eyes.
One of the things particularly interesting about this piece is that the painting is mounted on a piece of plaster like material giving the whole piece, the painting and the gold painted frame, considerable weight, about 15lbs.
Also quite notable and pleasant from a visual point of view, is the crackle finish and mellow color the original painting must have had based on this reproduction. This patina look does a nice job of depicting the original age of the piece and the fact that it had to have been originally painted with oil paint.
I have been unable to find out who the artist was, though obviously quite competent, which adds to the overall mystery of the piece. It measures: 18 X 28 X 2 thick.
The back comes with 2 different hanging options, heavy-duty twisted picture wire or dual toothed hanging bars for secure displaying. All in all a very unusually attractive piece, to hang in your home which will add warmth and comfort to any setting. The piece originally cost about $900 but we are downsizing and are selling for it for 350.
